Defamation Damages

Economic damages for defamation place the plaintiff in the same financial condition it would have enjoyed, but-for the alleged defamatory conduct.  The damages can include lost profits from lost sales as well as the costs the plaintiff expended in order to mitigate the defamatory effects.  Some states also allow recovery of general damages for loss of reputation.
